What is the opportunity? This is an exciting opportunity to join the Financial Risk Audit Team, which is a core part of GIA. The Financial Risk Audit Team is comprised of audit professionals who work closely with the Head of Audit to deliver financial risk audits across the Group. Model risk is one of the Group's Level 1 principal risks. The successful candidate will lead or assist in the delivery of model risk related audit assignments, while also gaining exposure to other financial risk types and supporting wider delivery as the need arises. This is an excellent opportunity for a high calibre candidate with proven model risk experience and a passion for wanting to make a difference. You will gain knowledge of end-to-end model risk management across a diversified multi-national financial services group, gaining exposure to a wide variety of risk management units and their management teams. In this role, you will: Support in scoping and planning audit engagements to meet the objectives as outlined in the Group Audit Committee approved audit plan. Evaluate internal controls and processes through the planning, execution and reporting of audit engagements. Lead audit engagements ensuring audits are run within budget, time and resource requirements. Report on the status of audit engagements to the Heads of Audit. Lead partner engagement with auditees throughout the audit engagement, including regular updates and agreement of audit issues and final report. Support in the development of the annual assurance plan and opinion. Support and mentor new and more junior members of the team in audit methodology and use of Audit Board. Ensure audits are delivered in line with GIA methodology. What will make you stand out? Third level qualification in a quantitative field relevant to model risk management preferred. Extensive experience of existing and upstream regulations affecting model risk, e.g. Capital Requirements Regulation, IFRS 9, EU AI Act and relevant EBA/ECB/PRA regulatory technical standards and guidelines Previous audit, assurance, or model validation experience would be a distinct advantage A track record of developing and maintaining strong organisational and client relationships and leading through influence. Highly adept in navigating governance processes and working cross-functionally with a broad group of partners to achieve an outcome. In depth knowledge and understanding of Bank of Ireland and its use of models. Experience of constructive engagement with supervisors and/or external auditors. Extensive practitioner experience in the management of model risk, whether in a first, second or third line of defence capacity or in the capacity of an external auditor, consultant, regulator or supervisor Proficiency in one or more leading statistical software packages such as SAS, Python or R Strong people manager and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and motivate colleagues irrespective of reporting lines Strong reporting writing and critical thinking skills, with the ability to convey complex information in a simple manner that generates practical insights for executive and Board audiences Essential qualifications Qualified or working towards a relevant Internal Auditor qualification (Certified Internal Auditor - CIA, or Certified Information System Auditor - CISA) or Accountancy qualification ACA/ACCA More about the team GIA forms the 3rd line of defence for the Bank of Ireland Group. GIA's purpose is 'to Help Make Bank of Ireland Better', including providing independent assurance to key partners on the effectiveness of the Group's risk management and internal control frameworks. To fulfil this purpose, GIA carries out risk based assignments, covering Group businesses and functions. We provide additional insight through its attendance at key governance fora and committees across the Group. Key partners include the Board, the Group Audit Committee, key subsidiaries' audit and risk committees and senior management, as well as other key parties, including the Group's regulators and external auditors. GIA's findings are communicated to senior management and other key partners, with remediation plans monitored for progress against agreed completion dates. We have a Group-wide remit and, as a result, have a deep insight into all of the Group's activities and access to the most senior levels within the Group. This is a hybrid role, based primarily at Baggot Plaza, Dublin 4 or Donegal Square, Belfast. We typically ask colleagues to spend a minimum of 8 days per month working in-person to support collaboration and connection.
