Head of Department - Biochemistry Laboratory Chief Medical Scientist/Principal Clinical Biochemist Full Time - Permanent Contract Bon Secours Hospital Cork is part of the Bon Secours Health System which is the largest independent hospital group in Ireland with over 2,500 staff including 350 leading consultants. We treat more than 200,000 patients annually. The laboratory is fully accredited by the Irish National accreditation Board, Reg no 153MT and the Hospital is JCI accredited. The Biochemistry Laboratory at BSH Cork provides routine Biochemistry and specialised diagnostic services to the hospital and to outpatients. Serving a Medical Assessment Unit, acute and elective admissions, and busy oncology and surgical programmes, the Biochemistry Laboratory at BSH cork provides an automated chemistry service, with Immunoassay and Immunology sections processing in excess of 250,000 samples annually. Due to an upcoming retirement, we are currently seeking a new Head of Department, Chief Medical Scientist or Principal Clinical Biochemist to lead our dynamic team. The ideal candidate would:

• Have the required qualifications for a Chief Medical Scientist post as stipulated by the Department of Health, to include a postgraduate degree in the field of Medical Laboratory Science and be a registered Medical Scientist with CORU.

• Have approved qualifications for a Principal Biochemist (HSE grade 3778) to include an MSc in Clinical Biochemistry or relevant subject area or equivalent qualification AND a PhD in a subject relevant to Clinical Biochemistry/Clinical Diagnostics/Laboratory Medicine OR Part 1 FRCPath (UK) or equivalent qualification.
• 6 years experience in a Medical Laboratory post qualification, 2 of which must be in a senior post.
• Have excellent leadership, interpersonal and organisational skills
• Be flexible and capable of working independently and as part of a team
• Be innovative, enthusiastic, and self-motivated
• Have experience in project management
• Have experience in supervisory management, training and a qualification in same is also desirable
• Have a high level of competence in IT
• Have experience in Quality Management and ISO15189 Accreditation
