The Role

The Portfolio Office function within Gas Networks Ireland is responsible for providing strategic direction and oversight for the delivery of all capital and operational work within the organisation, enabling it to make key decisions that will optimise the overall delivery of GNI's portfolio of work. The office provides support and oversight in the areas of Investment Planning and Governance, Integrated Delivery Planning, Portfolio Programme Management, Connections Coordination and Contractor Performance; whilst also acting as the gate keeper and critical interface between potential investment programmes and commercial opportunities; and the core departments responsible for the delivery, operation and maintenance of GNI's assets.

The Investment Planning and Governance team within the Portfolio Office is responsible for developing capital and maintenance investment plans and budgets, monitoring plan performance, maximising capital efficiency, and ensuring programmes deliver business benefits. Reporting to the Capital Budgeting and Governance Lead, the Senior Investment Analyst plays a key role in delivering high-quality capital portfolio reporting, insight and analysis, while supporting governance and control activities across the portfolio. As the Portfolio Office evolves, the role will increasingly focus on enhancing reporting capability, data quality and decision support.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Third level qualification in a numerate discipline with at least 5 years' relevant experience, ideally in a commercial, financial, or analytical role.
  • Proven financial and numerical modelling skills in Microsoft Excel are essential.
  • A recognised accounting qualification or equivalent experience would be an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of Business Management Systems and their implementation; specific knowledge of Maximo would be an advantage.
  • Practical understanding of project and programme management methodologies, delivery controls and governance requirements.
  • A good understanding of business operations and the commercial viability and impact of technical / professional decisions on the performance of the organisation.
  • Experience initiating and maintaining strategic relationships, using strong influencing skills to achieve business goals.
  • Strong people skills with the ability to get the best out of teams and individuals.
  • Ability to build a strong culture of communication and to gather inputs effectively from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong decision-making capabilities based on sound technical or functional understanding.
  • Proven track record of dealing with complex issues proactively and in a timely manner, along with the ability to communicate complex information clearly to others.
  • Ability to set own high standards of performance for delivering desired results.
  • A demonstrated commitment to developing new skills in yourself and others, with a track record of delivering results through others.
  • Comfortable with change and able to identify opportunities for improvement and efficiency.
  • Extensive experience in Excel, Powerpoint and Copilot.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
