Murphy is recruiting an Mechanical Estimator to support our expanding Water & Wastewater portfolio, delivering full design-to-operation solutions for Uisce ireann, Northern Ireland Water and other key clients, underpinned by our commitment to delivering safely, responsibly and to the highest standards. What you will be doing: Develop detailed and accurate estimates for mechanical engineering works based on outline drawings and specifications Ensure that estimates reflect a realistic level of risk and adhere to company guidelines and industry standards Engage in the design development process to evaluate buildability, material selection, innovative solutions, and cost-effectiveness Provide early-stage pricing information during tendering to assist in optioneering and budgeting, ensuring that the most cost-effective solutions are proposed Ensure all procedures, including risk management and governance processes, are followed, thoroughly documented, and properly authorised Contribute to the development of Tender Preparation and Tender Construction programmes Collaborate with other functions to prepare a detailed staff schedule for tenders, using insights from successful projects Work with central and regional buyers to prepare a procurement plan, identifying suppliers and subcontractors, and negotiating terms, conditions, and discount levels Prepare and send out enquiries to obtain competitive quotations for mechanical engineering resources, particularly materials and subcontractors Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technical developments and new methods within the mechanical engineering industry Apply this knowledge to enhance the accuracy and competitiveness of estimates Develop financial models for framework submissions, including setting appropriate staff rates and ensuring these are aligned with project budgets Utilise the standardised cost coding system to enable meaningful feedback and future cost capture, ensuring consistency and accuracy in financial tracking Who we are looking for: Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical estimating, preferably within the water, wastewater, or construction sectors Proven track record in preparing detailed and accurate mechanical estimates Strong analytical and numerical skills with attention to detail Excellent knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and construction methods Proficiency in cost estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines What you'll get in return: 27 days holiday, plus bank holidays with the option to buy an additional 2 days holiday each year, holidays increase with length of service Discretionary annual bonus and annual salary review Above market rate contributory pension scheme Life assurance, health screening and enhanced sick pay Generous Private Healthcare Allowance Enhanced maternity and paternity pay and a maternity returners bonus Extra 2 days holiday for all employees getting married and a wedding bonus Dedicated and continued investment in your professional development Other Murphy benefits include retail discounts, discounted gym memberships, cycle to work scheme etc About Murphy Murphy is formally recognised as a sector leading employer, Platinum Investors In People accredited.
