The Opportunity

This is a senior engineering role for experienced professionals who combine deep technical capability with delivery leadership and the ability to influence others.

In this role, the Senior Solutions Engineer will lead complex engineering analysis, solution development and project delivery activities across client accounts. The role spans the full project lifecycle and requires the application of sound engineering judgement, technical authority and a data-led, CPOS-first approach to identifying and developing energy efficiency opportunities.

Senior Solutions Engineers may also be asked to take responsibility for organising, coordinating and leading defined streams of engineering and solution design work. This includes setting priorities, tracking progress, managing risks or blockers and ensuring delivery outcomes are achieved and clearly communicated, while continuing to deliver hands-on engineering work as a Solutions Engineer.

Depending on delivery needs, the role may also include people leadership or line management responsibilities, alongside technical delivery.

Salary: €60,000-80,000.

Key Responsibilities

Solutions Engineering & Technical Leadership

• Lead and deliver complex energy assessments, engineering studies and solution development activities across client sites
• Collect, validate and interpret large and complex datasets to generate high-quality, data-driven engineering insights
• Use CoolPlanet's internal tools and platforms, including CPOS, as the primary means of analysing performance, identifying opportunities and supporting decision-making
• Define, review and approve energy-saving calculations, models, technical reports and client-facing deliverables
• Lead Front End Engineering Design (FEED) activities and provide technical oversight for Engineering Detailed Design (EDD), ensuring technical quality and consistency
• Act as a senior technical interface with clients, suppliers and contractors, providing clarity, confidence and direction

Delivery Leadership & Work Coordination

• Take accountability for delivery, visibility and performance across defined areas of engineering or solution design work
• Organise priorities, milestones and delivery expectations within a structured delivery and reporting environment
• Ensure progress, risks and blockers are actively managed, tracked and communicated
• Take a proactive, solution-focused approach to resolving delivery challenges related to resourcing, data quality, tooling or customer engagement
• Escalate issues through appropriate leadership or governance routes where required
• Drive continuous improvement across delivery processes, data quality, engineering standards and workflows

People Leadership & Development (Where Applicable)

• Provide technical leadership, coaching and mentoring to Intermediate and Junior Solutions Engineers
• Review engineering outputs to ensure quality, consistency and adherence to standards
• Where required, act as line manager or functional manager for engineers, including supporting development, providing feedback and contributing to performance discussions
• Support the development of engineering capability, culture and best practice across the team

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required

• Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical, Process, Energy Systems or a related discipline
• Significant experience delivering complex engineering solutions in energy, industrial or manufacturing environments
• Strong technical capability across multiple energy systems and the ability to apply sound engineering judgement in complex or ambiguous situations
• Advanced analytical skills and confidence working with large datasets and digital analysis platforms
• Ability to balance hands-on engineering delivery with coordination, prioritisation and delivery oversight
• Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence, challenge and support stakeholders at all levels
• Comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy and accountability

Desirable Skills and Experience

• A Master's qualification in an energy-related field of study
• Professional accreditations such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or similar
• Extensive experience working on industrial, manufacturing or large energy-consuming sites, including food & beverage environments
• Strong practical experience across several of the following systems:
• Thermal systems (steam and hot water)
• Refrigeration and cooling systems
• Compressed air systems
• Industrial heat pump technologies
• Renewable energy technologies
• Experience leading FEED or equivalent early-stage engineering design activities
• Experience using data analytics platforms, digital engineering tools or performance monitoring systems
• Interest in AI tooling, large language models and automation to enhance engineering insight, quality or delivery effectiveness

Location

This position will be based out of CoolPlanet's Powerscourt House office in Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow, with flexible and balanced working arrangements available, reflecting the seniority and delivery responsibilities of the role.

Senior Solutions Engineers are expected to maintain a strong connection to the office and wider team, while having flexibility in how and where work is carried out to meet delivery, leadership and client needs.

The role will involve regular customer and client site visits, and international travel is expected as part of delivering complex engineering solutions across client accounts.
