Special Olympics Ireland has one of the strongest Special Olympic Programmes worldwide. We are looking for a motivated individual to join our dedicated team to help build upon our success. Role Summary Build, develop and consolidate a comprehensive Special Olympics sport programme in the Leinster region, ensuring that it is in line with the prevailing Special Olympics Ireland strategy. Responsible for driving and delivering development across key aspects of the programme, including Sports Development, Coach Education and Training, and Competition Event Management. You will oversee and organise events that will make an impact on our athletes ensuring events are successful and cost-effective, while paying attention to budget and time constraints. The role will involve evening and weekend work. Duties and Responsibilities: Manage, develop and implement a structured and cohesive long-term plan for the region to achieve the objectives regarding sports management and development in line with the prevailing Special Olympics Ireland strategy. Establish and develop opportunities for athlete development and progression in sport. Play an active role in contributing to the planning of the organisation's sport programme and be responsible for the delivery of the programme with the support of volunteers in the region. Actively contribute to Special Olympics Ireland Sports department meetings and support the roll out of the national programmes as required. Develop and implement a calendar of sports events, to include competition events and training and development opportunities. Develop relationships with external stakeholders, including National Governing Bodies and Local Sports Partnerships, to assist in the development of sport and inclusion. Plan, coordinate and communicate opportunities for coaches/volunteers to undergo training and/or development and actively encourage them to develop and enhance their sport-specific skills. Take the lead role in recruiting volunteers for sports-specific roles. Plan and manage the recruitment and training of Event Management Teams, empowering them to run competition events. Manage implementation of the Games Management System (a software package used to deliver sport competitions), ensuring the integrity of the data and recruit, train and upskill volunteers on the administration, use and delivery of the package. Drive and manage the selection and preparation of regional sports squads for higher level competition. Recruit, assign, train and support volunteers to play an active role in regional sport teams and competition event teams. Liaise with staff, committees and volunteers regarding the planning, implementation and evaluation of the Sports Programme. Attend and participate in regional meetings as required. Develop and adhere to budget in conjunction with the Regional Director. Undertake any other assignments as may reasonably be requested by the Regional Director. Skills & Experience Relevant third-level sport qualification is essential e.g. sport science, sport/leisure management Minimum of one year's experience in a leadership role, in a multi-faceted project Proven experience as an event manager is desirable Thorough knowledge of all aspects of Microsoft Office Excellent interpersonal, organisational, communication and planning skills Flexible, self-motivated and enthusiastic Knowledge and experience of using online meeting platforms (i.e. Microsoft Teams, ZOOM) A current full clean driving license and access to a car is required This job description is an indication of the areas of activity and will be amended in light of the changing environment within Special Olympics Ireland.
