Job Title: Technical Underwriter Location: Dublin City Centre Working Model: Hybrid Abrivia are currently recruiting for a Technical Underwriter to join our client within the commercial insurance sector. This is a technical role focused on strengthening underwriting standards across Commercial Property and Casualty lines, while acting as a subject matter expert within the wider underwriting function. Working closely with underwriting, claims, and reinsurance colleagues, the successful candidate will play a key role in shaping underwriting frameworks, supporting portfolio performance, and providing technical guidance across the business. This position is suited to an experienced underwriter with strong technical judgement and a collaborative approach. Your Role Support the implementation and ongoing review of underwriting standards and risk appetite across commercial lines. Document and maintain underwriting guidelines, ensuring alignment with market conditions and business strategy. Analyse portfolio performance and market trends, producing insights and recommendations to support decision-making. Review and enhance product wordings, schemes, and acceptance criteria as required. Act as a technical referral point for complex underwriting queries from underwriting, claims, legal, and distribution teams. Engage with reinsurance partners and internal stakeholders to support appropriate coverage and risk management. Develop and deliver technical underwriting training to underwriting and sales teams. Contribute to cross-functional projects as a technical underwriting representative. Your Skills Strong experience in a technical underwriting or risk acceptance environment. Strong knowledge of Commercial Property and Casualty products and market practices. CIP qualified as a minimum; MDI or ACII desirable. Proven ability to assess complex risks and make sound technical underwriting decisions. Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills. Confident communicator with the ability to influence and build strong stakeholder relationships. Customer-focused mindset with an understanding of how underwriting decisions impact customer journeys.
