Gallery Assistant
The Gallery wishes to recruit a Gallery Assistant on a permanent full-time basis. The overall purpose of the post is to work flexibly and efficiently across the Commercial Department of the Gallery.Reporting to the Gallery Assistant Team Leader, the Gallery Assistant will:
- Attend to and operate the Exhibition Desk, ticketing system (Ticketsolve) and other online booking systems during paid exhibitions
- Provide administrative support, including commercial scheduling and reporting, to the Gallery Assistant Team Leader and Commercial Manager
- Assist with the operation of the Gallery Shop when required
- Provide excellent customer service in person, on the phone and online to all visitors, customers and potential customers
- Collaborate with our Visitor Experience team to deliver outstanding front-of-house visitor experience in the Gallery
- Ensure the front of house area is clean, accessible, and well-presented, with accurate signage, maintained displays, and proper management of lost property.
- Comply with the Gallery’s health and safety guidelines
- Collaborate with other Commercial Department within the Gallery to leverage opportunities for co-promotion at the Exhibition Desk
- Complete other duties as and when required within the broader Commercial team, supporting each other as necessary
- Previous experience in a front-of-house role in a busy environment
- A professional, polite and courteous manner when dealing with employees and visitors
- Excellent communication skills
- An ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team with minimal supervision
- Proven organisational and numerical skills
- An ability to prioritise tasks while working in a pressurised environment
- Willingness to stay fully informed and up-to-date with the Gallery’s exhibition programme and calendar of events at all times
- A positive, proactive, adaptable approach to working together with an enthusiasm and interest for working in an arts and heritage cultural institution
- Proficiency in box office systems and working with Ticketsolve (or similar) is desirable
- Experience working in a gallery or museum, and/or a demonstrated interest in art, is desirable
- A citizen of the European Economic Area (EEA). The EEA consists of the Member States of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway; or
- A citizen of the United Kingdom (UK); or
- A citizen of Switzerland, pursuant to the agreement between the EU and Switzerland on the free movement of persons; or
- A non-EEA citizen who has a Stamp 4 permission or a Stamp 5 permission.
