Job Specification Position Details Position: Mechanical Automotive Maintenance Fitter Reporting to: Maintenance Manager Division: Manufacturing Operations Employment Type: Full Time Position Overview As a member of the operations and engineering team, you will be responsible for supporting the maintenance and reliability of plant equipment, machinery, and auxiliary services. The role involves electrical and mechanical troubleshooting in accordance with GMP, HACCP, and health and safety requirements, while working collaboratively across departments to promote effective communication and teamwork. The Mechanical Technician contributes to the efficient and profitable operation of the manufacturing facility by maintaining high standards of equipment reliability, minimising downtime, and fostering positive working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, and management. Key Responsibilities Support the continuous and efficient operation of the manufacturing plant in line with production schedules and operational requirements. Carry out manual maintenance tasks requiring physical fitness and safe working practices. Execute and continually improve the preventative maintenance programme through scheduled preventive maintenance activities based on risk assessments and equipment reliability. Minimise equipment downtime through rapid response, effective root cause analysis, and structured problem-solving to prevent recurring failures. Monitor and record the usage of spare parts and maintenance materials. Perform mechanical repairs on high-speed, PLC-controlled production, handling, and packaging equipment incorporating pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Fabricate mechanical components, replace seals and mechanical seals, and carry out pump alignment to ensure optimum equipment performance. Identify, implement, and present continuous improvement initiatives relating to plant and equipment. Monitor equipment availability and operational status. Maintain equipment uptime through frontline asset care programmes and ensure maintenance requests are accurately logged within the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Complete maintenance work orders promptly and ensure required materials and equipment are available. Review weekly maintenance plans alongside relevant stakeholders, taking resource availability into account. Work closely with production teams, providing technical support, advice, and assisting with cross-training and skills development. Ensure external contractors comply fully with all site procedures and safety requirements. Participate in quality investigations relating to non-conforming products and customer complaints where maintenance input is required. Report equipment defects, malfunctions, or out-of-specification conditions promptly to management and the Quality department. Maintain high standards of GMP and housekeeping within workshops, maintenance areas, and tool storage locations, ensuring corrective actions are completed. Ensure appropriate segregation of materials and waste in accordance with site procedures. Participate in hazard reviews and investigations into safety or environmental incidents, ensuring actions are completed. Maximise the effective use of personnel and equipment resources while reporting breakdowns or defects promptly. Ensure maintenance records and all CMMS transactions are completed accurately and on time, investigating any discrepancies as required. Carry out all maintenance activities safely, adhering to Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), confined space entry procedures, and all other applicable safety standards. Promote and maintain a strong safety culture at all times. Participate in inventory cycle counts, including investigation, correction where appropriate, and escalation of unresolved issues. Skills & Experience Minimum of 5 years' experience within a manufacturing or production environment. Senior Trade Qualification or National Diploma/Degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Fitting, Maintenance, or a related discipline. Knowledge of Allen-Bradley PLC systems, Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, and Profibus communication protocols. Understanding of ATEX-classified hazardous areas and associated equipment. Experience with SCADA process control systems for process monitoring and fault diagnosis. Good computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and familiarity with CMMS, ERP systems, and Microsoft Outlook. Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical process plant maintenance practices.
