The Role

A leading Tier 1 General contractor is seeking an experienced Data Centre Project Director / Head of Operations to lead the end-to-end delivery of hyperscale data centre projects across Ireland and Mainland Europe.

This is a senior leadership position responsible for overall project performance covering engineering, commercial, programme, construction, commissioning, and client interface. The role is not discipline-specific; instead, it requires a strong, broad understanding of MEP, CSA, and mission-critical delivery at scale.

You will work closely with executive leadership, clients, and internal delivery teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, on programme, on budget, and to hyperscale quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for hyperscale data centre projects from pre-construction through commissioning and handover
• Take full ownership of programme, cost, quality, safety, and commercial performance
• Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams including engineering, construction, commercial, QA/QC, and commissioning
• Act as the senior client-facing representative, building strong relationships with clients, developers, and key stakeholders
• Oversee engineering strategy across MEP and CSA scopes, ensuring alignment with client standards and operational requirements
• Drive early-stage planning, sequencing, and constructability input to de-risk delivery
• Ensure robust governance, reporting, and controls across all project phases
• Manage senior project staff including Project Managers, Construction Managers, and Package Leads
• Support procurement strategy and subcontractor engagement at scale
• Oversee commissioning readiness, phased handovers, and final acceptance
• Promote a strong safety, quality, and delivery culture across all sites
• Provide executive-level input into future project planning and business growth within the data centre sector

Requirements

• Degree-qualified in Engineering, Building Services, or a related discipline
• 10+ years’ experience delivering large-scale construction projects, with significant data centre experience
• Proven track record with a Tier 1 General Contractor or Tier 1 M&E Contractor
• Demonstrable experience delivering hyperscale data centre projects end-to-end
• Strong working knowledge of MEP systems, CSA works, and mission-critical environments
• Experience managing large multidisciplinary teams and complex stakeholder interfaces
• Strong commercial awareness and programme control capability
• Ability to operate at senior leadership and client-director level
• Chartered status or equivalent professional recognition preferred
• Flexibility to travel to sites in Ireland and Mainland Europe as required
