Job Title: Clinical Tutor in Psychiatry Reporting To: Associate Clinical Professor Finian O'Brien. Location: Monaghan Community Mental Health Team. Contract: 12 months, Full Time Please note: that the Monaghan post is a full-time post based at St Davnets Hospital, Monaghan and includes travel to Carrickmacross for a weekly clinic, liaison to Monaghan General Hospital when required, and on-call duties at Cavan General Hospital. Details about the broader Clinical Educator programme at RCSI can be found here Objective: The principal objective of the post is to participate in the development, direction, teaching, facilitation and examining of the undergraduate teaching programme of students in Psychiatry. Benefits: Participate in clinical courses such as ACLS, IBU and PALS and be refunded up to €450 on successful completion; (Full list of approved courses available from HR) Refunds available up to €450 on passing approved examinations; Benefit from up to 14 days Educational Leave to support participation on approved courses, exams or professional development activities Clinical Lecturers and Tutors are eligible funding for the completion of an MD or Ph D with RCSI (some terms and conditions apply) Contract: This appointment is available for a period of one year initially, renewable to a maximum of two further years subject to satisfactory performance. The tutor post is integrated with a full-time clinical registrar post, so that teaching and examining students is integrated into the registrar's weekly timetable with the general adult community team. The on-call commitment is approximately 1:10. Please note that the post is a full time post comprised of a mix of clinical duties & tutor duties: Specifically, the duties of this post will include: To deliver the undergraduate teaching programme in Psychiatry, through in-person and digitally enhanced learning opportunities, in collaboration with the local RCSI Clinical Professor in Psychiatry and the Department of Psychiatry. Supporting students' progress during the clinical clerkship, at individual and group levels, including the provision of weekly small-group tutorials. Co-ordinating, monitoring and evaluating students' learning, in association with the local RCSI Clinical Professor in Psychiatry and the Department of Psychiatry. Contributing to the clinical services of the relevant hospitals as appropriate Ensuring that all Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland policies and procedures are adhered to. Complying with statutory legislation and Department rules and requirements in furtherance of your own and general staff welfare and safety Representing the best interests of the Department/RCSI at all times Performing such other duties as may be required from time to time. In relation to the clinical duties of this post: To work as a NCHD within the general adult community mental health team (ACMHT) under the supervision of Associate Clinical Professor Finian O'Brien. To provide rapid and responsive assessment of individuals referred to the ACMHT. Managing a caseload of individuals referred to the ACMHT. To collaborate with multidisciplinary colleagues in delivering a safe and effective programme of care. To participate in weekly multidisciplinary meetings, and training and case reviews as required. To participate in the NCHD on-call roster for Cavan Monaghan MHS. Candidate Specification: Essential The successful candidate should: Possess evidence of registration with the Irish Medical Council Previous experience of teaching and assessing students in an academic environment is desirable Previous experience in clinical psychiatry. Previous experience in research is desirable. The person needs to have an interest in clinical teaching and actively engaging with undergraduate students The successful applicant should have very good communication skills Desirable It would be advantageous if the successful candidate had: Previous experience using E-learning/VLE systems Previous experience of teaching and assessing students in an academic environment Previous experience in research Completed at least 4 years of clinical experience post-internship MPsych I or equivalent Application Process Please submit your CV and covering letter no later than 5pm on 20th March 2026.
