Research Lead, Counselling and Psychotherapy, IICP College Location: Killinarden Enterprise Park, Whitestown, Dublin 24 Reports To: Director of Counselling & Psychotherapy Works Closely With: Dean of Health Sciences, Associate Director of Counselling & Psychotherapy, Programme Director, Research Lecturers, Research Supervisors, Assessment and Awards Lead. Role Purpose The Research Lead is responsible for the leadership, coordination, and governance of research activity within the counselling and psychotherapy programmes. The post-holder will oversee research teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, manage research lecturers and dissertation supervisors, co-ordinate the College Research Ethics Committee, and support the development of a coherent research culture within the College. The role ensures that research activity is academically rigorous, ethically sound, and aligned with QQI quality assurance standards and programme validation requirements. Key Responsibilities 1. Research Teaching Design, deliver, and assess research methodology modules at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Support students in developing research proposals and dissertations. Provide academic guidance on research design and methodology. Ensure consistency in research teaching across programmes. Contribute to the ongoing review and enhancement of the research curriculum. 2. Coordination of Research Lecturers Provide academic leadership to lecturers delivering research modules. Promote consistency in assessment standards and marking criteria. Support planning and development of research modules. Monitor student feedback relating to research teaching. Facilitate collaboration and shared standards across research teaching staff. 3. Recruitment & Management of Research Supervisors Recruit and induct dissertation supervisors Allocate students to supervisors. Develop and maintain supervision guidelines and expectations. Monitor supervision quality and student progression. Provide support and guidance to supervisors throughout the dissertation process. Address supervision-related issues and escalate where appropriate. 4. Research Ethics Committee Coordinate the Research Ethics Committee. Coordinate ethical review of student research proposals. Ensure ethical review processes are consistent, transparent, and well-documented. Maintain records of ethics applications, decisions, and approvals. Provide guidance and training to students and supervisors on ethical research practice. Ensure compliance with College policies and relevant data protection legislation. 5. Internal Research Conference & Scholarly Engagement Organise and chair internal counselling and psychotherapy research conferences and research showcase events. Facilitate presentation of student and faculty research. Promote dissemination of research within the College community. Encourage a culture of scholarly engagement and reflective practitioner research. 6. External Representation Represent the College at relevant research conferences and academic events. Support and encourage staff and student participation in external research forums. Contribute to enhancing the College's academic profile through appropriate research engagement. 7. Quality Assurance & Governance Ensure research and dissertation processes align with QQI validation documentation. Coordinate the moderation and second marking of dissertations where required. Contribute to programme review and revalidation processes in relation to research components. Maintain accurate documentation relating to supervision and ethical approval. Person Specification Essential Postgraduate qualification (Level 9 or above). Experience teaching research methodology in higher education. Experience supervising undergraduate and/or postgraduate research. Knowledge of research ethics, governance, and review processes. Strong organisational and coordination skills.
