Job Summary:

The HV Substation Commissioning Engineer/Manager is responsible for overseeing the successful commissioning and integration of new high-voltage (HV) electrical substations. This includes managing the end-to-end commissioning process, from site acceptance testing to final energization and handover to the client. The Commissioning Engineer/Manager will work closely with the construction team, electrical engineers, and utility providers to ensure the substation meets all technical, safety, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage the detailed commissioning plan, schedule, and budget for the HV substation project
  • Coordinate and lead commissioning activities, including site inspections, testing, and system integration
  • Manage the procurement of specialized testing equipment, tools, and consumables required for commissioning
  • Oversee the execution of all site acceptance tests, functional tests, and performance verifications
  • Ensure the substation meets all relevant electrical safety standards, grid codes, and utility requirements
  • Identify and mitigate project risks, issues, and changes throughout the commissioning lifecycle
  • Manage stakeholder communications, including regular progress reporting to project leadership
  • Develop comprehensive commissioning documentation, including test results, inspection reports, and handover materials
  • Provide post-commissioning support and coordinate any remedial work or system optimizations

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in electrical engineering or a related technical discipline
  • 7+ years of experience in the commissioning of high-voltage electrical substations and power systems
  • Extensive knowledge of HV electrical equipment, protection and control systems, and substation design principles
  • Strong understanding of HV substation design, operation, and maintenance, including knowledge of industry standards (e.g., IEC, IEEE).
  • Proficient in the application of electrical testing methods, instrumentation, and safety procedures
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to develop and execute detailed commissioning plans
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities
  • Familiarity with relevant electrical standards, grid codes, and regulatory requirements
  • Professional engineering (P.Eng.) or equivalent certification is preferred

Experience:

  • Large Scale Datacenter experience preferred
  • Hyperscale Datacenter experience preferred
