1464 - Donor Attendant Tuam Purpose of Role The Irish Blood Transfusion Service (IBTS) operates nurse-led collection clinics, managed by a Clinical Nurse Manager (CNM). The role of the Donor Attendant (DA) on the Tuam Mobile Team is to participate as part of the collection team to support the IBTS strategic priorities with regard to achieving operational excellence, improving customer (donor) experience and supporting better healthcare, ensuring compliance with current legislative requirements. The DA will provide care to donors before, during and after the donation process, under the direction of the Clinical Nurse Manager (CNM) / Registered Nurse (RN). The DA is expected to participate in all aspects of the IBTS multi-disciplinary, cross functional approach to service delivery and to work within the IBTS Quality System and Code of Conduct at all times. The Tuam team covers West of Ireland. Key Duties and Areas of Responsibilities Key Deliverables Areas of responsibility include (but are not limited to): Donor recruitment and retention Pre-donation assessment of donors Set up of equipment required for donation Venepuncture (insertion of the donation needle) see 12 'Additional Information' below Monitoring of the donor during and after the donation process and management of any adverse reactions Management of the canteen area, including provision of refreshments to the donor pre and post donation Reporting of incidents, complaints and other relevant information to the CNM / nominee Accurate completion of documentation Entry of data onto the IBTS computer system Person Specification / Selection Criteria Essential Criteria Qualification - Leaving Certificate / FETAC Level 5 (minimum) Proven computer skills (through training course or relevant experience) Excellent written communication skills, including excellent attention to detail (fluent in English language) Previous experience of working in a customer orientated service / business Required Competencies for the Role Getting the Job Done: Functional/Technical Knowledge & Skills Scale Familiarity and working knowledge of skill. Additional Information or Comments: Travel within Ireland is required as part of this role. Role is based on a mobile clinic. Team departs daily from the Tuam base. The successful candidate will be required to participate in the mandatory core induction training programme provided by the IBTS. Following successful completion of a clinical supervision programme the DA will undertake Donor Screening and Donation Venepuncture training. Must have a flexible approach to working hours, including availability to provide cover when required. Travel outside of Tuam and its surrounding counties is required as part of this role
