Part-Time Caretaker / Porter Start Date: Wednesday, 2nd September 2026 Location: Athlone Education Support Centre Salary: €15.32 per hour Role Type: Part-time, on-site The Management Committee of Athlone Education Support Centre is seeking to appoint a reliable and proactive Part-Time Caretaker / Porter to support the smooth running of the Centre. This role would suit someone who enjoys varied duties, takes pride in maintaining a welcoming and well-organised environment, and is flexible in relation to working hours. Please note that a three-month probationary period will apply. Key Duties and Responsibilities The role will include, but is not limited to, the following: Opening and locking the Centre as required. Managing lights, doors, blinds, gates and the alarm system. Operating heating and hot water systems. Reporting faults promptly. Maintaining fire escape routes. Complying with Health and Safety requirements. Preparing rooms and the hall for meetings, courses and events. Setting up and moving furniture as required. Carrying out porterage duties as needed. Providing tea, coffee and refreshments when required. Cleaning and storing utensils after use. Distributing and collecting attendance rolls. Assisting with photocopying. Recording usage for charging purposes. Disposing of waste safely. Replenishing toiletries. Carrying out minor repairs, including furniture, door handles and sinks. Completing basic painting and general maintenance tasks as required. Attending to visitors and contractors as needed. Supporting a welcoming and professional environment within the Centre. Participating in staff training as required. Assisting with fire drills and evacuation procedures. Confidentiality and Other Duties Maintaining confidentiality at all times. Carrying out any other reasonable duties as required by the Centre. The role will generally involve the following working pattern: Monday to Friday: Typically 4:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. Some late evenings, Monday to Thursday: Up to 9:30 p.m. Some Saturdays: 8:15 a.m. 5:30 p.m. Flexibility in relation to working hours is essential. A suitable candidate should: Be competent, hard-working, reliable and enthusiastic. Work well as part of a team. Be willing to take responsibility for the maintenance and presentation of the Centre. Be flexible with regard to working hours. Have experience in a similar role, which would be advantageous. Have a business or trade qualification, such as plumbing, electrical or carpentry, which would be desirable but is not essential. Applicants must have: Own transport and a clean driving licence. Garda Vetting clearance. This will be completed through the Centre with the successful candidate. Willingness to comply with all Centre policies. Willingness to undergo training as necessary. Ability to work on their own initiative. Flexibility in relation to duties and working hours. Salary Hourly rate: €15.32 Applicants should submit a CV and letter of application. This panel may be drawn upon for future similar roles.
